BUILDING AN OBSESSION
This wasn’t an “official” project but it still had broken timelines, escalating budgets, failed designs, awful project management, difficult client. I didn’t want to spend $15 on another Lack table from IKEA, and need very little excuse to build with Lego coffee table. So, a coffee table. How hard could it be?
MY LEGO WEIGHS A TON
First prototype: the top and bottom slabs weighed 45lbs each…too big, too long, too heavy.
Second prototype: everything weighed slightly less but collapsed during an apartment move.
Third prototype: salvaged, strengthened, reduced weight with ‘Lego sheets’ that slipped inside the frame.
